Japan Visa Notes

U.S. Citizens do not need a visa for tourism or attending business meetings.  However, visas are required for athletic events, performances, depositions, employment, and some categories of filming. Japan Visa Tourist Visa

U.S. Citizens do not need a visa for tourism.

For Applicants Requiring A Tourist Visa To Japan:

• Submit your valid signed passport.
• 2 fully completed and signed visa application forms.
• 2 Passport photographs
• Round trip flight itinerary.
• Copy of valid driver's license or state ID.
• Copy of hotel reservation, if staying in various hotels, please provide copies of each reservation.
• 1 Fully completed and signed Authorization Letter.  Click here to download the Authorization Letter
• If visiting friend or relative, a letter of invitation from the host in Japan explaining the relationship to the applicant and the purpose of travel to Japan. In addition, the letter must indicate the length of stay, place of stay, and contact information in Japan.
• A schedule showing your daily list of activities or daily itinerary. The dates on your list must match the entry and exit dates listed on your flight itinerary, It must provide exact activities in full detail.
• Copy of most recent bank statement, showing sufficient funds for the duration of stay.  Blacking out sensitive information such as bank account number is acceptable.
• A letter from the applicant's employer, directed to the consulate noting salary, length of employment, position, and dates of vacation. For the owner of a small business.
• For Non-U.S. Citizens: Original Alien Registration Card (Green Card), or Valid U.S. Visa is also required.
• Completed Ambassador Passport and Visa Cover Letter

Japan Visa Business Visa

U.S. Citizens do not need a visa for attending business meetings and negotiations.

For Applicants Requiring A Business Visa To Japan:

• Submit your valid signed passport.
• 2 fully completed and signed visa application forms.
• 2 Passport photographs

• A business letter of responsibility written on your US company letterhead and addressed to: Consulate General of Japan. The letter must state all of the following:
- Nature of business to be performed
- Business reference in Japan to be visited
- Company guarantee of financial responsibility for the applicant, and their return transportation
- The letter should be signed by a company employee other than the applicant.
- For self employed applicants, a copy of business license is required.

• An invitation letter from host company or organization in Japan and a copy of the business registration in Japan.
• A schedule showing your daily list of activities or daily itinerary. The dates on your list must match the entry and exit dates listed on your flight itinerary, and the dates listed on your Letter of Invitation and Business Letter. It must provide exact activities in full detail.

Consular Office of Japan in Los Angeles:
Areas Served: Arizona, Southern California (zip codes beginning 900 - 931 and 935).
Applicants residing in Los Angeles County should apply directly with the consulate in person.
However, we will be able to assist residents of Arizona, those who reside in counties of San Diego, Imperial, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Riverside County, San Bernardino County, and other remote areas within the Los Angeles jurisdiction.
